He participated in a remembrance ceremony on his first day in that nation.
President Biden visited Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, in Jerusalem on his first day in Israel. He was joined by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism Deborah Lipstadt, intermin Prime Minister Yair Lapid, and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They spoke with Holocaust survivors and took part in a ceremonial lighting of the eternal flame in the center’s Hall of Remembrance.
Before leaving Yad Vashem, President Biden left a brief message in the center’s guest book. “We must never, ever, forget because hate is never defeated. It only hides,” the president wrote. “We must teach every successive generation that it can happen again unless we remember.”
